Donald, of the Namgis (Num-Gees) First Nations, was born in Hazelton, BC, the Third child of Rev. Herb and Doreen Lancaster. The Lancaster family moved back to Alert Bay, BC, where his mother was originally from, when Don was a young boy. He remained there for most of his early life. At 16 years old, Donald's uncle showed him how to carve jewelry. Don watched his uncle a few times, then began to carve on his own. He started out with copper, then quickly moved on to silver and gold. In 1985, at 20 years of age, Donald moved to Victoria, BC where his artistic talents flourished. His jewelry quickly became popular, and with each passing year his artistic talents grew, along with his popularity. Don's jewelry has gone all over the world, including Australia, Japan, Europe and the U.S.A
